FAQs: PAGES Open Science Meeting (OSM) 2025

The 7th PAGES Open Science Meeting (OSM) will be taking place from 21–24 May 2025 in Shanghai, China. This is a collection of some of our most frequently asked questions. If you can't find an answer to your question, please contact us.

The PAGES Open Science Meeting (OSM) is an international and multi-disciplinary platform/ meeting designed to encourage interaction between scientists of all career stages, disciplines and regions. The hope is that many contacts are made, and many collaborations and joint activities begun, that will endure long after the meetings themselves.

Held every four years in a different location, both the OSM and Young Scientists Meeting (YSM) provide an invaluable opportunity to bring the past global change community together from around the world to share, discuss, learn, and plan for the future.

The theme of next year's OSM is "Earth System Changes from the Past towards the Future".

There are 31 sessions, covering a wide range of topics:

  1. 01. Hydroclimate of the Common Era (The 2k Network)
  2.  02. Scales and Scaling in the Climate System: climate, macroclimate, megaclimate

Due to the very limited number (<4%) of abstract submission with online option for the conference, the Scientific Program Committee, after careful consideration, has decided to cancel the online participation option. So the 7th PAGES OSM will be held in person only rather than in the originally planned hybrid mode.
Please find the registration fees for online attendance here. Note that early bird rates also apply here.

Registration must be done online through the website. All users must create an account. Once registered with an account in the User Center, participants can register for the event, submit an abstract to a session, book accommodation, book the conference dinner and book field trips. Payment is also done through the User Center online either via credit card, or bank transfer.

The registration system is designed to ask you filling information about the way of payment for registration, but will not request payment before you proceed to abstract submission. Watch the detailed guideline file on how to register for the 7th PAGES OSM.

Click here for information on applying for financial support, or, go this page on the OSM website, find the article on "Financial support available to attend the OSM in Shanghai in 2025" and follow the instructions to download the form and submit it via email with required attachments.
